Dodoba is a beautiful graduation film from Yon Hui Lee, a promising student from CalArts’ 2015 animation class.
The author’s description of the film goes as follows:
“In the village of Dodoba, a toad must face trial over the murder of a frog.”
The premise is set up in a very elegant way and the action is animated very well. I liked the choice of angles for some of the shots near the end and even though it’s a bit long for what I’m used to seeing in short films (a bit shy over 5 minutes), it totally uses every second to advance the plot and reveal more about the characters.
Here’s some concept art and sketches from the production stage of the film which took between 3 and 4 months to make.
